Europe Needs A Detente: Ukraine Only A Proxy

What Russia seeks is not conquest, but dignity. And dignity cannot be defeated militarily — it must be acknowledged diplomatically.

Europe’s crisis today is not Ukraine — it’s amnesia.

The continent that once invented diplomacy has outsourced its peace. The war continues not because weapons fail, but because Europe itself refuses to lead.

I have followed politics and world affairs since before I even understood them. At five, I was already reading the morning newspaper — not decoding, just absorbing.

Later, on long-distance flights, I would collect every newspaper and magazine — Time, Newsweek, The Economist — and read them cover to cover.

Politics was never my field; curiosity was.

But years of reading, quietly and compulsively, built a lens — a way of seeing beyond governments, into the architecture of civilizations.

That lens tells me this: until Europe participates as a whole — not as scattered states obeying transatlantic cues — the conflict will persist.

Russia has an agenda, and whether the West likes it or not, that agenda is rooted in civilizational self-respect.

Europe’s path to peace lies in recognition, not rejection.

If it forges a new continental security framework that includes Russia rather than isolates it,

Moscow will return to negotiation — and perhaps even to reconciliation.

What Russia seeks is not conquest, but dignity.

And dignity cannot be defeated militarily — it must be acknowledged diplomatically.

The real test for Europe is not how long it can resist Russia,

but how soon it can remember that Russia is, and always was, Europe’s own reflection.

For when civilizations forget their own half, they begin to fight their own mirror.
